Knowledge of LED module



I. Definition
An LED module is made up of LEDs which are arranged according to specific rule, encapsulated and added with waterproof work.
LED module is of wide use among the LED products and it differentiates in structure and electron. Simple module is made of circuit board with LED and shell. Complicated one is added with some controls, constant flow source and some relevant colling processes, which prolong the life of LED and makes the luminous intensity better.
II. Application
It is mainly used to display advertisement fonts (acrylic and blister) and logos in the evening. Words or logos are its media and it is installed on the top of the building or on the wall, which not only displays the effect of the signal during daytime, but also makes use of LED as light source and produces another effect during evening. With the LED lighting control system, words or signals can be controlled dynamically. In some entertainment area, LED module has been one of the most important choices for the enterprise to build its presence.
III. Parameter
1. Color: monochrome, colors of rainbow and full color SPOC
2. Voltage: the present 12V low-voltage module is universal. During the connection of power with control system, the voltage value must be checked to electrify the module, or the LED module would be damaged.
3. Operating temperature: the normal temperature when LED works, usually between -20℃and + 60℃.
4. Light angle of the applied pictures of LED module lamps: usually provided by factories. The LED light angle is the angle of LED module.
5. Brightness: the brightness in LED module usually indicates light intensity and lumens.
6. Waterproofing grade: when LED module is used outdoors, this parameter is important. The highest waterproofing grade in the open air is IP68.
7. Size: the common length, width, height and so on.
8. Longest single connection: in the series-connection LED module, the number of the LED module that is connected.
IV. Classification
In terms of color, it can be classified as monochrome, seven colors and full color SPOC. Monochrome module is module of one color and colors like red, green, yellow and white are often used. LED module of seven colors has seven colors transformed. It has more colors and better variability. LED module of full color is better than LED module of seven colors. It can change its color vividly, beautiful, dynamic and attractive.
In terms of power of single LED, the module can be classified as low-power module (below 0.3W), medium-power module (0.3W-0.5W) and high-power module (above 1W). The high-power module is brighter than low-power module and it can also used longer than low-power module. So it is the development trend of LED illumination as it is more practical.
In terms of waterproofness, the module can be classified as waterproof and non-waterproof module. It is mainly differentiated according to the applied environment. The waterproof LED module can be used as illumination outdoors and publicity. As it has no problem with water, it is fit for the usage in the bad environment. And the non-waterproof module is more often used indoors. The waterproof module is more expensive than the non-waterproof one.
In terms of shape, the module can be classified as direct insert LED module, piranha LED module and paster LED module.
V. Requirement
The voltage of LED ranges from 2-4v and its power also has a broad range. Its usage depends on the technical requirement as a product. For example, an LED module needs to emit 10lm light and 2 LEDs are better in terms of appearance. So 5lm LED can be a choice. And when other factors like color (voltage is relates to color), temperature and quality are considered, an appropriate LED can be found.
Instructions of LED module
I. Most of the light sources of the luminous fonts at present are three-bulb, five-bulb and six-bulb LED modules of DC12V. It needs to use the power of DC12V which is output through the constant voltage switch. So it should be cautious that the luminous fonts or the LED module should never be connected with electric supply of 220V directly if the switching power supply is not installed, or the LED light source would be damaged for the high voltage.
II. To avoid the longterm overwork of switching power supply, the load power between switching power supply and LED should be 1:0.8, which makes the product more secure and prolongs its life.
III. If the module has over 25 sets, they should be connected respectively and then connected outside of the box of the luminous fonts together through a good copper core of over 1.5 square millimeters. The power line should be as short as possible. If it exceeds 3m, more wire diameters should be added. The lines at the end of the module which are not used must be cut and pasted and must be fast. If necessary, tapping screws should be used to fix. During the use of non-waterproof products, the trough type fonts need prevention of water.
IV. The module should be bright enough. The visible brightness between the modules should be 3-6cm, and the thickness of the font should be 5-15cm. There are two types of LED light source that is fit for luminous fonts: piranha and straw hat. The piranha module is appropriate for the luminous fonts which are 8-15cm high.
V. During the use of LED module, the voltage drop should be noticed. Never make only one loop from the beginning to the end. It will not only cause inconsistent brightness because of different voltage between the beginning and the end, but also damages circuit board because of the excess of electricity. The right way is to connect loops as many as possible to ensure the appropriate distribution of voltage and current.
VI. If anti-rot material needs to be used in the body of the fonts, white primer is the prior choice to increase its reflection coefficient.
